Complementary Measures of the Mass Density and Cosmological Constant

چکیده
The distance-redshift relation depends on the amount of matter of each type in the universe. Measurements at different redshifts constrain differing combinations of these matter densities and thus may be used in combination to constrain each separately. The combination of Ω0 and ΩΛ measured in supernovae at z ∼ 1 is almost orthogonal to the combination probed by the location of features in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy spectrum. We analyze the current combined data set in this framework, showing that the regions preferred by the Supernova and CMB measurements are compatible. We quantify the favoured region. We also discuss models in which the matter density in the universe is augmented by a smooth component to give critical density. These models, by construction and in contrast, are not strongly constrained by the combination of the data sets. Subject headings: cosmology:theory – cosmic microwave background

In Wesson's canonical model, the universe is assumed to be five dimensional (5D) empty space time. This model corresponds to a solution of the Einstein field equation in five dimensions which, from a four dimensional point of view, is equivalent to a universe with a positive cosmological constant. In this model, the fifth direction is perpendicular to the four dimensional space time and is not...
متن کاملSpacetimes admitting quasi-conformal curvature tensor
The object of the present paper is to study spacetimes admitting quasi-conformal curvature tensor. At first we prove that a quasi-conformally flat spacetime is Einstein and hence it is of constant curvature and the energy momentum tensor of such a spacetime satisfying Einstein's field equation with cosmological constant is covariant constant. Next, we prove that if the perfect flui...
متن کاملSupernova Ia and Galaxy Cluster Gas Mass Fraction Constraints on Dark Energy
We use the Riess et al. (2004) supernova Ia apparent magnitude versus redshift data and the Allen et al. (2004) galaxy cluster gas mass fraction versus redshift data to constrain dark energy models. These data provide complementary constraints that when combined together significantly restrict model parameters and favor slowly-evolving dark energy density models, close to the Einstein cosmologi...
متن کاملVacuum Energy Density and Cosmological Constant in dS Brane World
We discuss the vacuum energy density and the cosmological constant of dS5 brane world with a dilaton field. It is shown that a stable AdS4 brane can be constructed and gravity localization can be realized. An explicit relation between the dS bulk cosmological constant and the brane cosmological constant is obtained. The discrete mass spectrum of the massive scalar field in the AdS4 brane is use...

Recent measurements of the global curvature of space-time, using distant supernovae as distance indicators, favor a positive cosmological constant, associated with an accelerating universal expansion . However, these results by themselves still allow an open universe with low mass density and zero cosmological constant. We show here that this degeneracy is removed by independent constraints fro...
متن کاملBulk Viscous Bianchi Type VI0 Cosmological Model in the Self-creation Theory of Gravitation and in the General Theory of Relativity
In the second self-creation theory of gravitation and in the general theory of relativity, Bianchi type VI0 cosmological model in the presence of viscous fluid is studied. An exact solution of the field equations is given by considering the cosmological model yields a constant decelerations parameter q=constant and the coefficients of the metric are taken as A(t)=[c1t+c<su...
